Pioneer Stereo Serial Number
Pioneer Serial Number Lookup
I'm making this post partly to vent and partly to warn others about Pioneer's negligent rebate department.
I need to unlock my stereo in my 1999 Acura 3.5RL. I had no idea the stereo would lock up when the battery was disconnected. I have owned the car for two years. The serial number of the stereo is B809 read more. Then post the radio make+model plus all the letters+numbers on any labels, barcodes and a 14 character Serial Number stamped in the metal casing. This information can then be used to see if a code can be calculated.
I purchased a Pioneer AVH-4200NEX head unit from Crutchfield on 6/1/16. It came with a $100 rebate offer through Pioneer, which I mailed in on 6/8/16.

After about a week I saw that my claim had been denied because I accidentally mailed in the UPC code instead of the serial number from the product box. I sent out the serial number the following day. Over the next 2 weeks I periodically went on the rebate status website to see if my rebate claim had been accepted, but no luck.
So I call the rebate company which is a third party that Pioneer has handle their claims. They said they hadn't received the serial number. Over the next 4 weeks I keep checking the rebate status online and calling periodically to see if they found the serial number. Finally, on 8/5, (6 weeks later!) they found the serial number and ordered my rebate card. The rep said it would be another 6 to 8 weeks before I receive my rebate!
Fast forward to today (8 weeks later) and I still haven't received my rebate card and my rebate claim hasn't changed from 'ordered' to 'shipped'. I call up the rebate company and the rep says 'Oh, you should have received it by now. I'll contact the card company and have them send it out. It'll be another 7 to 10 business days. Be on the lookout for a white envelope.'
So now I'm supposed to just hope that they send the rebate. No confirmation that it's sent, no tracking number, no nothing. I called Pioneer and Crutchfield and let them know what happened and that they should know how badly this rebate company is dropping the ball. I doubt anything will come of it but who knows.
TL;DR I bought a Pioneer head unit in June and it is October and I still haven't received my $100 rebate. I would advise against buying a Pioneer product if you are expecting to receive a rebate for part of the purchase price because the company that handles their rebates is brain dead.
